We Survived!!!

The first week of Montessori school and I couldn’t be happier. I know my previous post mentioned my tearful goodbyes and uncertainty about leaving my baby with new providers but, she is thriving in her new environment. I must admit that after note seeing her teacher when I picked her up on the first day I was still very nervous so the next day I emailed her and received the following message.

Then she took the time to call me twice to give me an update on my lovebug. Our phone conversation made my heart smile and let me know that my little Liv was right where she needed to be. Now I can relax and look forward to a wonderful school year with lots of independent learning and growth😊.

But before I end this post I have to share this with you all...

Do you see that?

That’s right my baby sat on the potty at school yesterday. At SCHOOL Y’all.

I know she didn’t actually use it but after all I’ve shared on our potty adventures I’m celebrating the fact they even tried and her willingness to sit...1 point for team potty training.

Fellow HeartBEATS

How did the first week of school of for your kiddies?

Welcome to Montessori...

Today was my little heartbeat first day of Montessori school and I was a ball a nerves.

My love on the other hand had no clue what was going on and was just EXCITED that mommy was home when she woke up this morning.

So excited that it threw dada’ s morning routine OFF and had him rolling his eyes at me even after we dropped her off lol.

Who knew mama being there to see her off would result in no Spanish lesson, no morning pictures, and lots of tears?  Whelp! Maybe I should have expected that but I just couldn’t miss her first day in her new environment.  I just couldn’t so, I was there snapping iphone pics, fixing hair, holding, hugging, and kissing my baby.

And after sneaking a few photos in at the house, we headed off to school where I watched these two walk in the school like they owned the place.

Everything was going great until she realized I was there.  Then she LOST it. It was HORRIBLE. Like the teacher had to pry her out of my arms horrible. Y’all already know I cried like a baby when I got back to the car and can’t stop thinking about how she’s doing :-(

Sleepytime Shoes

Hey Luvs!

Hope you all are having an amazing time this summer like we are.  Dom and I have spent a lot of time focusing on our dreams, planning our future, and simply enjoying the person that Baby O is becoming.  She’s officially 18 months and has changed so much so I thought I’d spend this week updating you all on her progress with a few things I discussed in previous post.

To start I want to share a quick update on...Bowed LegProblems

Last time I checked her sleepy time shoes had arrived and I was pleased to announce that she was doing well sleeping in them and doing just about everything the doctors said she wouldn’t be able to while wearing them.  Which really hasn’t changed she still enjoys putting them on at night and most mornings she wakes up in them. However, there has been one or two times her dad has walked in her room and the shoes were completely off her feet while she was straight chilling lol.

But that’s neither here nor there. The real reason I’m here sharing with you all today is because I actually believe here wearing the shoes have helped her “internal tibial torsion” out tremendously.  Dom and I noticed the correction after the first two weeks but I wanted to wait a bit before showing you all. This weekend I was finally able to get my busy little tiny tot to stay still so I snagged a few pics for you all.

Not bad at all for two months of wearing the shoes right?  She still has to wear them until September but there’s no doubt in my mind that upon return to the no eye contact, using big medical words, straight to business orthopedic specialist she will be just as pleased with her progress as we are.

Daddy Dental Award

During one of Baby O’s recent adventures to the pediatrician I came across a pamphlet that stated children should go to the dentist as early as 6 months. My first thought was...that’s crazy. In my conversations with my own dentist she informed me that children aren’t seen until the age of three so while waiting I pondered the thought. And, upon further consideration I realized my kid had her first two teeth at 6 months so this theory wasn’t too far off. Of course, once the doctor entered the room I inquired about it because I just had to know why my dentist would suggest three and their pamphlet suggested 6 months. The pediatrician informed that general dentist which is the type I visit typically will wait until three to take children but pediatricdentist believe in early dental hygiene for preventative measures...Now that makes sense to me.

Seeing how my kid has 16 teeth I requested their referral list. I was curious and wanted to set up an appointment if for nothing else than to ensure the hubs and I were doing all the right things to keep Baby O’s smile intact. And, after rescheduling her visit for various reasons we finally made it to the dentist last week and here’s how the appointment went...and here’s how the appointment went...

We arrived and clearly I was more excited than Baby O. She was all like ummm this looks suspect lol
All hell broke loose when I laid her down (and held her arms) so the hygienist could exam and clean her teeth she went bananas and got up crying
So while waiting for the dentist to come in mama gave her lots of lovin and reminded her that they are only here to help.
She ate my kiss and words up and was much better for the dentist. I laid her back and held her arms the exact same way I did with the hygienist and, the moment she begin to cry the dentist begin to sing. The tears stopped, she relaxed a bit, yet wa still reluctant (hence the eye roll below) but, she totally acted like a Big girl. So the dentist get her five minute job done.
After her fluoride treatment she was all unicorns and rainbows lol. Just kidding but she was literally passing out smiles, and high fives while collecting her sticker, coin, and sugar free lollipop.
Although, Baby O did great at her first dental visit the real star of the dental show was the hubby. He wasn’t even at the visit but the dentist was totally singing his praises for doing an amazing job with brushing our lovebug teeth each morning. We’ve been working with baby O on her dental hygiene each morning and night since she first began teething and, because of it she has no cavities (which the dentist say kids her typically do) and her breath and teeth are right where they need to be:).

New Mom Tip: Start at least taking a finger tooth brush to your baby mouth the moment you discover that they are teething. The reason to do this is to ensure your child feels comfortable letting you in their mouth to brush their teeth. If you don’t establish this early you will have an uphill battle.

Bowed Leg Problems (Update)

Hey luvs!

Thank you all for your kind words yesterday as I dealt with my emotions behind there potentially being a problem with my lovebug’s little legs.  I truly appreciate your continued support and encouragement.

Yesterday’s appointment literally lasted less than ten minutes and it turns out that Baby O isn’t bowed leg after all.  All this time what I thought were cute little bowed legs are really what the medical profession considers to be internal tibial torsion”.

What’s this?

Per John’s Hopkins...“Internal tibial torsion is a condition in which the tibia (the larger of the two bones going from the knee to the ankle, forming the shin) is rotated inwardly (internally) or outwardly (externally) along its long axis. The rotation of the tibia also causes the foot and ankle to be rotated. Such rotation is seen throughout the course of normal development, but too much rotation is considered a developmental abnormality.

How does this affect Baby O?

In Baby O’s case her tibia is on the abnormal spectrum. The doctor informed us that her tibia is rotated inward quite a bit. A normal person’s tibia would line up to their 2nd toe while Baby O’s is lined up to her 5th toe on her right leg and past the 5th toe on her left leg. Keeping her message to us very positive she informed us that some of the inward rotation will self-correct over time, however she didn’t suspect it would be enough to eliminate future issues down the road :(.

What’s next? With the diagnoses above she informed us that we had two options.
  1. We could do nothing and see how she continues to develop over time.
  2. We can try having her sleep in special shoes (braces) for the next 4 months.
The specialist presented her options with no pressure and totally left the decision to Dom and me. However, I left secretly more stressed than when I went in, I think it was because she was very technical and spoke in medical terminology the entire visit, so I was unsure what all this really meant. This is why I was truly thankful that Baby O had her 15 month appointment with her normal pediatrician later that day. During her checkup I discussed her condition in detail with her pediatrician; she broke it all the way down for me. I left feeling relieved and decided that for the severity of Baby O’s internal tibial torsion option 2 was the best way forward.

Guess I’ll be updating y'all on her progress over the next few months :).

Bowed Leg Problems

As I sit here nervous as ever for Baby O's 9:40 appointment with a pediatric orthopedic specialist I can't help but pray that the outcome of today's visit is no different than the last...

A few weeks ago I received a frantic call from her teacher saying that Baby O wasn't acting her normal self. She informed me that she had a really bad cough and there was a coughing virus going around the class. With her not sure if the virus was contagious I immediately chucked my co-peeps the deuces and headed to get my baby to take her to the doctor.

Turns out her allergies and asthma were just acting up so she'd have to start breathing treatments again... Thank God. However, as Baby O was walking out and blowing kiss bye to the staff the doctor stopped us in our tracks. She noticed the bowed legs y'all and begin to express concern. Just like that my I'm a good mom high was blown, and the ever so concerned mom reared her ugly head. Leaving the doctor stressed as hell with breathing treatments, allergy medication, a referral to the dentist (for all those damn teeth), and a othropedics specialist was just too much.

Powering through the anxiety I made the appointment. We arrived with me expecting the worse (from my web md research) only for him to tell me that in his opinion she was growing as she should. Yes! her legs didn't concern him, may baby was clear until he hit me with a... However. Since children weren't his speciality he'd prefer I get a second opinion from someone who only sees kids.

So now I sit waiting on more good news hopefully :). Even tho, I Lost all eight hours of sleep lastnight and woke up concerned, watching my active lovebug play this morning reminded me that no matter what this doctor says she's perfect.

Here Comes Easter

Last year we took Baby O to Sesame Street live and although she had limited exposure to the show she honestly had the time of her life. She sat there the entire show singing and dancing to all the songs. It was amazing to watch her enjoy herself and led me to want her to have more exposure to the brand. As she continues to grow and explore the world around her I don’t think there is a better time than the present.
This is why this year as I begin to teach her about the importance of Easter I plan to incorporate Sesame Street in her understanding from the commercial perspective of the holiday.  I plan to create a Sesame Street themed Easter basket. No my planning behind haven’t put the basket together yet. I’ve just found some very key elements to go into it based on the things she enjoys daily...
The Basket
As we all know every kid must have a Easter basket. I had been admiring the beauty of this basket in my local grocery store for some time now. With this being my first purchase of a basket for her, I wanted to ensure that I got the perfect one. Wanting a basket that would stand the length of time so I could use it for all her Easters to come (a little piece of tradition).I passed this one each week and would think to myself that...it is perfect. So, Once it went on sale I purchased it.
The Elmo
Since most children Baby O’s age tend to love Elmo I figured I’d start her Sesame Street introduction with him. Of course, I found a ton of Elmo products during my search, but there was one that truly spoke to something she loves (music). Once I spotted Let's Rock Elmo I knew he would be perfect for the center of her basket. I purchased it about a month ago and have been hiding it. She's reallyinto stuffed animals and dolls right now so I know once she gets her hands on it there’s no turning back lol.
The Book
In my search for Elmo products I came across an awesome living social deal which, allowed you to personalize a book for your child. As luckwould have it the character they choose to use in the book was Elmo. I snatched that deal up quickly and personalized a book for my love. It came in the mail over the weekend and I can’t wait to sit on her room floor so she can read it to me:). She loves books and pretend read to me each night before her bath.
The Book
I think with these items and a few other little touches her 1st Easter basket is well on its way to being PERFECT. She already has the collecting eggs portion of the day down, which means I better get to reading her some Easter stories so she truly understands the reason for the season.
Happy EASTER HeartBEATS

No Pictures Please

So yesterday was Baby O's picture day at school and for the first time since she's been there I declined on the option to have her photos taken :(. Which sucks because I look forward to these moments with my lovebug, not to mention I spent a whole week going back and forth with Dom on which of her cute little spring ensembles she'd wear, and laid it out on Sunday.

Only for us to end our Sunday evening nursing her and the nice little shiner she gave herself. Yup! Baby O is walking around with a black eye after our family fun day in the back yard...It was such a beautiful day that we decided to go out back and get some fresh air. All was going well and she was having a blast, until she tripped while chasing our dog CoCo. Of course, I understand that being a tiny tot she have a lot of bumps and bruises while exploring along the way but I totally felt horrible and my Mother's Guilt came back in full force (hangs head in shame).

Any who, yesterday when I headed up to her school midday to take her to the doctors all of her little classmates looked so cute in their picture day attire. I was sad but enjoying my view until everyone I passed (all the teachers, directors, etc) mentioned how there was a ton of controversy that morning on whether or not Olivia was supposed to take her photos (I thought I had notified everyone she wasn’t but I guess not). When I told them no they laid it on SUPER thick and convinced me otherwise, vowing to hide her litter shiner, and allow her to have her photos taken today. Because, all the staff in the building looks forward to seeing Olivia on picture day lol.

I agreed to their terms because I just love when my kid is the highlight of others day like she is for mineJ. Especially since when I stopped by the infant room to see a friend’s daughter her little cute face and outfit just gave me LIFE.  Can’t wait to see how all the kids photos turn out. For now here’s a hair and outfit sneak peek...

Teething is the devil

Sorry for not posting on Mondays any longer but I honestly need the extra day to get my life. The last few weekends in my household have been spent with an uber clingy (to mom only) and whining Baby O. She has teeth 15 and 16 coming through and they are making for a very unhappy tiny tot.

Hence why I feel that teething is the devil. For all the moms who are thinking it or ever thought it...It's finally out in the universe lol. No in all seriousness it feels as if I've spent the last year of Baby O's life with her teething. It's been a mess, not only do she get super attached to mommy, but she also has a ton of sleepless nights and some God awful diarrhea behind it. With so many looooooonnnnnggggg nights it's totally hard to imagine the days where I was excited for her first tooth to come. All I can think about now is how I wouldn't wish these teething nightmares on my worst enemy lol.

In any case...

If you have a child that suffers from chronic teething (Yup! I just diagnosed Baby O) like mine and insist on having all 20 baby teeth by the time she's just over a  year old try remain patient. Although it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel, but this too shall pass. And when everything else fails you can always invest in the items below to see if it helps easy your child's level of discomfort.
  • ORAJEL TEETHING SWABS - Using this will make sure those little sharp teeth in baby’s mouth don’t come down on your fingers :)
  • Frozen yogurt - Just take a regular go-gurt pack and freeze it
  • Children’s Motrin - A little at night can help make sure everyone sleeps well
  • Cold Washcloth
  • Crunch Snacks - Baby O loves to much on Cheerios when teething
  • Plenty of mommy cuddles throughout the night

Fellow heartbeats....
What remedies do you have for dealing with teething?
